The traditional perception of independently-designed video games is normally unpolished and basic. However, students of the Video Game Design and Development Program at the Academy of Design in Toronto are changing things with their exceptional work on Goldwing, a student-designed fighter game ? with a twist.
What sets Goldwing apart from other fighting games in the market today is that its characters are not human. Instead, each fighter is a dragon with magical skills and abilities. It is the perfect time for such a game to be in development, as games like Skyrim and Dragon Age have reignited gamers? passion for the mystical medieval creatures.
Each character in Goldwing comes equipped with their own skills, and each of the game?s three levels is designed ensure that players put these skills to use. The level design is impeccable, as each stage is more than a backdrop; it is an interactive environment in which players can display their skills.
Goldwing is still in its BETA stages, and you can download the game in its current form to test it out. It certainly brings something new and exciting to both the independent and mainstream video gaming markets, and it is certainly worth a try. Get the demo here.
